Just for laughsTo laugh up one's sleeve Just for laughs。 例句-1: "Come on and get your jacket -- let's go out and have a couple of beers just for laughs." 下面的情形就是一个例子: 例句-2: "Just for laughs they tossed Mary in the swimming pool with all her clothes on. Then they found out she didn't know how to swim." 我们再来举一个高兴一点的例子吧: 例句-3: "I really enjoyed that movie last night. It won't win any prizes, but it has two funny guys in it that are worth watching just for laughs." To laugh up one's sleeve。 例如: 例句-4: "We were all laughing up our sleeves at the teacher when he was up at the blackboard explaining the math problem. He had a rip in the back of his pants and didn't know it." 下面又是一个例子: 例句-5: "We were all laughing up our sleeves at our brother when he sat down at the dinner table. He'd seen his girl off at the airport and had lipstick on his face and didn't know it." To laugh up one's sleeve,这是指暗暗发笑的意思。 I want to talk today about今天我所要讲的是Ive been asked to take the long view,他们让我谈谈长远的观点and Im going to tell you what I think are the three biggest problems for humanity from this long point of view. Some of these have aly been touched upon by other speakers, which is encouraging. It seems that theres not just one person who thinks that these problems are important. The first is -- death is a big problem. If you look at the statistics, the odds are not very favorable to us. So far, most people who have lived have also died. Roughly 90 percent of everybody who has been alive has died by now. So the annual death rate adds up to 150,000 --因此,年死亡率总计就是15万——sorry, the daily death rate -- 150,000 people per day,对不起,日死亡率——每天15万人,which is a huge number by any standard. The annual death rate, then, becomes 56 million. If we just look at the single, biggest cause of death, aging如果我们只着眼于死亡的最大的单一因素,衰老it accounts for roughly two-thirds of all human people who die. That adds up to an annual death toll of greater than the population of Canada. Sometimes, we dont see a problem有时,我们无视于问题之存在,because either its too familiar or its too big. Cant see it because its too big. I think death might be both too familiar and too big for most people to see it as a problem. Once you think about it, you see this is not statistical points;一旦你想一下,你就会发现这并不是统计数字而已。these are -- lets see, how far have I talked? Ive talked for three minutes. So that would be, roughly, 324 people have died since Ive begun speaking. People like -- its roughly the population in this room has just died. Now, the human cost of that is obvious,死亡给人类带来的损失是很明显的。once you start to think about it -- the suffering, the loss --如果你开始细想,死亡带来的痛苦、损失its also, economically, enormously wasteful. I just look at the information, and knowledge, and experience光从信息、知识和经验来看,that is lost due to natural causes of death in general, and aging, in particular. Suppose we approximated one person with one book? Now, of course, this is an underestimation. A persons lifetime of learning and experience is a lot more than you could put into a single book. But lets suppose we did this. 52 million people die of natural causes each year corresponds, then, to 52 million volumes destroyed. Library of Congress holds 18 million volumes. We are upset about the burning of the Library of Alexandria. Its one of the great cultural tragedies that we remember, even today. But this is the equivalent of three Libraries of Congress -- burnt down, forever lost -- each year. So thats the first big problem. And I wish Godspeed to Aubrey de Grey, and other people like him,我要祝奥布里·德·格雷和他的同行们成功,to try to do something about this as soon as possible. 201607/456472Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. Please sit down, please sit down. Thank you. I love you all, but youll have to forgive me. Ive lost my voice in screaming and lamentation this weekend. And I have lost my mind sometime earlier this year. So I have to . Thank you, Hollywood Foreign Press. Just to pick up on what Hugh Laurie said, you and all of us in this room really belong to the most vilified segments in American society right now. Think about it: Hollywood, foreigners and the press. But who are we? And, and, you know, what is Hollywood, anyway? Its just a bunch of people from other places. I was born and raised and educated in the public schools of New Jersey. Viola was born in a sharecroppers cabin in South Carolina, came up in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Sarah Paulson was born in Florida, raised by a single mom in Brooklyn. Sarah Jessica Parker was one of seven or eight kids from Ohio. Amy Adams was born in Vicenza, Veneto, Italy, and Natalie Portman was born in Jerusalem. Where are their birth certificates? And the beautiful Ruth Negga was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, raised in Lon – no, in Ireland, I do believe, and shes here nominated for playing a small-town girl from Virginia. Ryan Gosling, like all the nicest people, is Canadian. And Dev Patel was born in Kenya, raised in London, is here for playing an Indian raised in Tasmania. So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. And if we kick them all out, youll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts. They gave me three seconds to say this. So, an actors only job is to enter the lives of people who are different from us and let you feel what that feels like. And there were many, many, many powerful performances this year that did exactly that – breathtaking, compassionate work. But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart, not because it was good, it was – theres nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It…it kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still cant get it out my head because it wasnt in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate when its modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybodys life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose. OK, go up with that thing. OK, this brings me to the press. We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage. Thats why, thats why our founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in our Constitution. So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood Foreign Press and all of us in our community to join me in supporting the Committee to Protect Journalists, because were going to need them going forward, and theyll need us to safeguard the truth. One more thing. Once when I was standing around the set one day, whining about something, you know, we were going to work through supper or the long hours or whatever, Tommy Lee Jones said to me, ;Isnt it such a privilege, Meryl, just to be an actor?; Yeah, it is. And we have to remind each other of the privilege and the responsibility of the act of empathy. We should all be very proud of the work Hollywood honors here tonight. As my…as my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia, said to me once, ;Take your broken heart, make it into art.; Thank you, Foreign Press.201701/489956青岛哪里的医院看妇科好
