Todd: OK, Christian, what is your dream job, if you could have any job in the world? Christian: My dream job is to become a diplomat representing my country, preferably in Japan. Thats why I came to Japan to learn Japanese and hopefully obtain a master degree in International Relations. After getting my masters degree in International Relations, I would like to go home and enter the diplomat school for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is a three year program, and then, after that hopefully come back to Japan and work for the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo. Todd: Must be pretty competitive. Christian: Its very competitive, but I think if you know a certain language that not many people speak it gives you a competitive edge nevertheless so thats why I came to Japan because I know at this stage there are only 300 hundred people from Norway living in Japan and not all of them are here to study Japanese, they represent different companies or schools, or theyre missionaries so, thats the track Im on right now but well see how it goes in the end. Todd: How about when you were a child, what was your dream job? Did you want to be a diplomat when you were say, 10? Christian: No, when I was ten I probably didnt know what I wanted to do. I was just too busy playing in the street, you know, having fun with my friends and these things. When I was that young I really didnt have a dream job like fireman, police. I never really went through that stage, you know. Todd: I wanted to be a baseball player. Christian: Alright, fair enough. Todd: Im still dreaming. Christian: Oh, thats good. /201308/251994

Todd: So, Simon, are you still planning to take trip to Southeast Asia? Simon: Yeah, I really like Southeast Asia so I would like to go there again. Todd: Oh, cool. When you go, are you taking a tour, packaged tour or are you just going to go on your own like a backpacker? Simon: Well, I havent decided yet. Ah, both have their advantages and their disadvantages. (Mm, yeah!) Um, well, lets say with backpacking, its cheap, and you can meet a lot of interesting people and you can sometimes stumble upon, really, really cool things or interesting places by chance. Todd: Hm, its true, but if you do a packaged tour, they usually have the expertise about the area. Youll have a guide who can speak the language. Simon: Well, if I go for a short-time, which is probably the case I think packaged tours have, are also good because youre there for a short time. Everything is provided for you and you can just enjoy fun in the sun, or culture. Basically, your mind can relax. When youre a backpacker you always have to think about everything, you know. ;Can I find a place to stay?;, ;Is this place safe?; you know, ;Are my belongings safe?; uh, things like that. Packaged tour you just sit back and relax. Todd: Yeah, I think its always best to take a packaged tour if you travel with somebody, but its always best to do backpacking if youre going to travel alone. Simon: Absolutely, I agree. If youre alone, in, as a backpacker, you can meet people. Youre forced to meet people. Todd: Yeah, thats true. Simon: Ah, if you took a packaged tour alone youd probably be one lonely person, sitting on the beach, drinking your glass of lemonade or whatever drank and sitting there ing a book. Todd: So, on your trip to Southest Asia, are you going along with somebody? Simon: Well, well see wont we.
