1. I am going to have a test. Knock on wood. 例如你说“我差一点就被一辆车给撞到,真是好险”,就是“I almost got hit by a car. Knock on wood. 2. I didn't get a ticket this year. Cross my fingers. /200804/35458

1. I'm so fed up with your BS. Cut the crap. "Cut your crap."

今天李华会学到两个常用语:a can of worms和cut one's losses。 LL: I think that maybe we should just be supportive of Jane. It's best not to open a can of worms by trying to give her advice. Open a can of worms? LL: "To open a can of worms" means to do something that results in a complicated situation full of problems. LH: 我说呢,open a can of worms是个比喻,不是真的开一罐虫子。所以To open a can of worms LL: Well, if she follows your advice and it doesn't solve her problem, then she might blame you. LL: Right. There are so many things that could go wrong when you give people advice that I usually avoid opening that can of worms. 对了,Larry, 你还不知道,那天在课堂上我才真的是opened a can of worms. LL: What did you do? LL: I bet that everyone in your class is unhappy with you right now. LL: Wow, that's a tough situation. You really did open a can of worms. LL: Unfortunately, sometimes keeping your mouth shut is the only way to avoid opening a can of worms. ****** LL: Well, Jane decided to cut her losses and quit her job. She's going to start looking for a new job tomorrow. Larry,什么是cut her losses? LL: To cut one's losses means to give up and withdraw from a losing situation. LL: Exactly. She didn't see any way to improve her relationship with her co-workers, so she decided to cut her losses and leave. LL: Sometimes, there's nothing you can do to improve a situation. All you can do is cut your losses and try to find a better situation. LL: What happened? LL: She gave up on her PhD? 一个是to open a can of worms,意思是做了某件事会造成更多问题。

Beijing to push sedan toll at traffic hotspots -- Sedan drivers in Beijing may be forced to pay a toll for driving on the heavy-traffic roads as the capital vows to make public transport 50 percent of the total traffic by 2015, chinanews.com reported on Friday. 规划中提出,北京将鼓励市民使用zero-emission transportations(零排放交通工具),如自行车等,并完善重点区域的bike paths(自行车道)建设。 /201109/154394

[误] Mason\'s resignation well fit his boss\' mind, because he could not only get rid of Mason, a nail in the eye, but also save a large sum of compensation. [正] Mason\'s resignation well played into his boss\' hands, because he could not only get rid of Mason, a thorn in his flesh, but also save a large sum of compensation. “眼中钉”在英语中也有对应的表达,即 a thorn in one\'s flesh。 /03/65832Brown-noser: a person who is constantly trying to win favor with people above them 献媚者,拍马屁的人By far: by a wide margin; by a great difference 很,极高To count on someone: to depend or rely on someone You can count on him to help. Full of oneself: to think too much of oneself To get down to business: to get serious about a task认真着手办事,开始干正事;言归正传After some pleasant talk, we got down to business. to get/have sth under one’s belt: to get or to have experience; to have aly achieved or obtained sth Give sb a run for their money: 不让… To give someone the cold shoulder: to be cold to someone on purpose 冷落某人(to not) give someone the time of day: to ignore someone; to refuse to pay any attention to someone 对某人毫不理睬Goody-goody: 善于太好卖乖的人To kid around: to joke around 开玩笑to talk into: to persuade; to convince 说某人做某事I talked him into making concessions on the question. She tried to talk him into adopting her plan.

[误] Falling in love with Helen simultaneously makes these two good friends become competitors in love. [正] Falling in love with Helen simultaneously makes these two good friends become rivals in love. 例如:business rival(商业上的竞争对手);a violinist without rivals(无与伦比的小提琴家)等。 /200811/56654

I'm sorry but I won't be able to fix your TV for two weeks. I’m up to my neck in work right now. But I'll try to have it y for you in time for the start of the football season. Apart from my regular work this week, I have to give a speech on Wednesday and teach a course on Thursday. And my aunt is coming from New York for a visit on Friday. With so much to do, I'm really up to my neck.

1: Which of the following prepositions means that something is fashionable? a. up b. down c. in d. out 是:c. in,in在英语里往往代表时尚的意思,比如what's in at the moment? /201004/102649
